Spring training focuses on getting the chapter ready for the paddling season, training guides to run rafts, familiarize kayakers to lead to the lines, and managing campsites for weekend trips.
Jeff Cogle is teaching an ACA Level 4 paddle raft guide course on the Lower Yough and possibly the Casselman.
Some of our experienced expert kayakers will demonstrate the standard lines and the "fun" line on the Lower Yough.
We will also go over how to plan and run river trips, set up larger group campsites, and plan, prep, cook and clean up for group meals.
Schedule:
Friday: Arrive and set up camp
Saturday: Raft guide training and river run, likely on the Casselman or Lower Yough.
Sunday: Raft guide training and river run, likely the Lower Yough.
Monday: Optional day if you want to get a good night sleep before you head home or get a bonus run on the Yough.
Food: We will be cooking breakfasts and dinner together in camp and having lunches on the river. Group meals are scheduled for Saturday breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and Sunday breakfast and lunch.
NOTE: Students are required to prepare one meal (breakfast or dinner) for the group. Duff and Vince are available to provide any guidance or assistance with meal planning.
Camp: We are staying at the Overflow Group Campsite at the Kentuck Campground, Ohiopyle State Park, PA. There is power at the campsite and bath houses with hot showers, flush toilets, and dishwash stations a 5 minute walk down the hill.
